Water skiing , the adventure sport gives an awesome feeling of moving on the foot over still water and creating waves and turbulence on its surface. The sport is mainly a recreational one and is one of the most popular surface water sports across the globe. Beginning the career with one ski in each foot, the water ski participants advance to the use of a single ski when they become used to the sport. These skis, which were earlier made from wood, are mainly composed of fibreglasses now. Towards the beginning of the water skiing career, the skiers are pulled at the speed of 25 to 30 km per hour but it increases to between 40 and 55 km as they reach a mature phase of the career. The skiers are pulled along by a boat and by shifting their weight in different directions, they can also change the directions. It can be held in any river, lake or bay with undisturbed and calm water surface.
It is generally believed that Water skiing was invented in Lake City, Minnesota in 1922. However, some people put the date as early as in 1920 and according to them, the place where this awesome surface water sport was first played was France . Barefoot skiing, a variation of the sport, involves water skiing without the use of the skis. Water ski racing is a favorite pastime of many of the adventure sport lovers.
The sport of Water skiing has different types of competitions like Slalom, Trick skiing, Ski jump and others. Amateur skiing clubs also hold Water ski shows . The sport is extremely popular among the youth and they are getting more and more involved in it making the game cross its confinement.
