Spearfishing

Spearfishing , which had been one of the most important steps taken by the ancient humans towards civilization, now remains as one of the most popular adventure sports of the world. The sport has been a favorite in the sea shore areas of different countries round the world. These areas usually experience large migrations of fishes during the times of the year when the competitions are usually held. The players can dive underwater and can also stand on the shores to catch the fishes. Now-a-days, the use of scuba and other diving equipments are used. However, these equipments are not at all welcomed by the orthodox players as these diminish the challenges associated with the sport. The results of the competitions are decided on the weight of the fishes caught. Sometimes the spear fishers catch fishes with incredible weights and set different records. Though the activity of Spearfishing has a history nearly as ancient as human civilization itself, yet it has been listed as a sport only since 1947. It was the year when the rules for Spearfishing were set up. The International Underwater Spearfishing Association and a number of national spearfishing governing bodies of different countries were set up in the year 1950. In the same year the first Spearfishing championship was held in the United States of America.

Though it has an ancient origin, spearfishing, as a sport, is still popular in lots of countries across the globe. It is expected that the sport will not take a long time in spreading worldwide and be one of the leading adventure sports of the present times.
