Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing , one of man's ways of protecting himself from the wrath of nature in the early days has given birth to an extremely popular adventure sport of the present era. It is one of the many winter recreations available in the snow packed mountains of different countries. They have always helped the skiers discover the snow-covered places they were not allowed to ski or surf. These snowshoes have also helped the downhill kiers in similar ways. There are different types of Snowshoeing and it is also included in the cross country skiing . The sport of snowshoeing competitions has different disciplines like sprints and hurdles . The sport has also made a place in many adventure races and multisport events like winter quadrathlon, winter Special Olympics and the Arctic Winter Games . But the sport is yet to be included in the Olympics . The names of Tom Sobal and Sally Edwards are among the important players of Snowshoeing.

Snowshoes are believed to be invented from 4,000 to 6,000 years ago and may have traveled to different parts of the world from Central Asia. It is believed that the snowshoe racings are also as old as they themselves are. But it is not until the recent times that snowshoeing has earned the status of an organized sport. Different countries have their own governing bodies for the sport and they engage in international level competition of snowshoeing. A few of the important snowshoeing associations are European Snowshoe Committee, Chikyu Network of Japan and the United States Snowshoe Association of America.

The sport of Snowshoeing has not been invented long. Yet its utility has made it quite common now-a-days. The Snowshoeing lovers are expecting their favorite sport to be loved worldwide in near future.
