Slamball , an exciting adventure sport played between two teams of four players each, has been developed with features from a number of games like ice hockey, basketball and acrobatics . The main characteristics of the sport have been derived from the trampoline of acrobatics, the physical play involved in ice hockey and of the features of basketball, the slam dunk has inspired it most. Two padded basketball rims and backboards at each end of the court are used for the Slamball matches and four trampolines are placed in the court. These trampolines serve as the launching pads. The teams scores points by getting three points for a dunk and defending the score by blocking the opponents with stops . The primary object of the teams is to score more than their opposing teams.
The main aim of the inventor of Slamball, Mason Gordon , while creating the game was to make his dream of having a real-life video game come true. As he conceptualized it himself, he asked Mike Tollin , a TV and film producer, for help. Tollin took a bit of time to decide, but finally agreed and helped Gordon to set up a court in East Los Angeles. Gordon then recruited a few skilled and strongly built street basketball players for playing the matches. The game soon became popular and also appeared on The National Television .
A number of teams have started playing Slamball since it was first played. A few of these teams are the Bandits, Bouncers, Riders , Rumble and Slashers. Dion Mays, Kevin Cassidy, Adam Hooker , Sean Jackson and James Willis are some of the noted players of the game. The sport of Slamball is crossing narrow confinements and becoming excessively popular in spite of the risk of injuries associated.
