Skimboarding

Skimboarding is a form of adventure sport which has been classified as a discipline of surfing and is performed by riding a board on shallow water or even wet sand. The sport is usually regarded as a form of beach recreational activity . The skimboards are smaller and thinner than the surfboards and work on the principle of hydroplaning . The skimboarder or skimmer is the names for those who ride a skimboard on the beaches or in the shallow waters. The sport starts on the beach where it is difficult for a rider to keep the balance. But then the board enters the water where it can be given direction by just shifting the weight. The main aim of the skimmers is to ride his boards on the waves and then return back on it to the shore.

The recorded history of Skimboarding dates back to 1929 when the lifeguards of the Laguna Beach used large plywoods to skim through the waves of the ocean. These boards were circular in shape and in Hawaii they were known as the paipo boards. Skimboarding, as a business, was started by Tex Haines .

Skimboarding is now a popular water sport and adventure sport. It is played in most of the famous beaches across the globe and is expected to be one of the most famous adventure sports of the coming era.
