Skateboarding , an adventure sport involving the riding on skateboards and performing several tricks on it, is equally popular among men and women. Still it is predominantly popular among the male who compose 74% of the total skaters around the world. The youths, mainly those below 18 years of age, are enthusiastic skateboarders . A long time has passed since the advent of the first home-made skateboards in the 1950s. After a few steps of advancement, skateboards have evolved into its current forms. These skateboards, inspired by the freestyle boards of the 1980s, are usually made from the Canadian Maple. The 7-ply skateboards with polyurethane wheels, are popular for their toughness and durability. A skateboard is the main gear for skateboarding used along with other gears like skateboarding tools , clothing and others. Trick skating in the skateparks have taken the shape of an extremely popular adventure sport and hobby in the recent times.
The sport of skateboarding owes its origin to the flat and wheeled wooden planks used as skateboards during the 1950s. Since then the rising popularity of the sport has inspired a national magazine, Skateboarder Magazine , in the 1960s and the games first broadcast on the television in 1965. The modern skateboards were developed for the first time in the early 1970s by Frank Nasworthy . Due to a number of injuries caused during skateboarding, the sport was totally banned in Norway from 1978 to 1989. The skateboards are also used by the US Marine Corps for military affairs.
Skateboarding has evolved into an extremely popular game and with its thrill and adventure is attracting youths all over the world. The sport of skateboarding is crossing all its boundaries and is expected to take the shape of a global sport in near future.
