Hang Gliding

Hang-gliding , an adventure sport in which the participants use simple crafts to float in the air at high altitudes, gives the thrill and excitement of flying like a bird. The only way for the pilots to control the craft while sitting on a harness hanging from the wingframe is by shifting his body weight. There are different types of hang-gliders available. Some of them have flexible wings , some rigid wings while in some the wing is added to the pilot with a fairing. The sport of hang-gliding gives the glider the fun of participating in the sport as well as that of flying.

The initial gliders designed from the birds had failed, but the art of manufacture of the crafts reached its summit in the hands of the German aircrafts manufacturers after the First World War. As the Germans were forbidden from using powered aircrafts after the World Wars, the manufacturers started trying their hands at the hang-gliders which could carry men in the air without the help of motors. The hang-gliding competitions are held with the gliders having an objective of flying as long as possible and landing in a spot. The World Championship and World Air Games governed by Federation Aeronautique Internationale also include Hang-gliding are held. The other important tournaments are men and women's World Championships .

The thrill of the game and the fun of flying in the sky have made Hang-gliding popular among the people across the world. The sport is expected to have greater growth quite soon and spread across the globe.
