Geocaching gives a childish pleasure of treasure-hunting and traveling around the world while seeking for hidden treasures using navigational techniques and a GPS or Global Positioning System . The aim of this adventure sport is to find small waterproof caches or containers hidden in various positions across the globe. These include easy places like roadsides and parks. Multi-caches, underwater caches, caches placed 50 feet up a tree or those placed the peaks of high mountains are difficult enough to be traced. There are also different types of caches like the traditional ones or the Night-Cache which can only be found during the night searches. Event-Caches are placed where the geocachers are present together. The caches usually contain coins, small toys, CDs, books and many more things.
The start of Geocaching dates back to 1 May, 2000 when the selective availability was removed from the Global Positioning System. The first GPS-located cache was placed by Dave Ulmer living in Beavercreek, Oregon. The date was 3rd May, 2000. The initial name GPS stash hunt was changed to the present one on 30 th May of that very year.
Even to this date, more than 350,000 geocaches are spread in 222 countries around the world for the participants to find. The game, ensuring fun and entertainment, is fast becoming extremely popular across the globe.
