54% of the total voters in the South Dakota Primary were women. Senior voters made up the majority of the electorates, accounting for 36% of the total strength. 31% of the voters belonged to age group between 45 and 59. Although the scales are heavily tilted towards Sen. Obama in terms of delegate count, yet this win will provide Clinton with a respectable way to bow out of a long and protracted fight over the Democratic nomination.
Most analysts have concluded this win at the South Dakota Primary as a consolation prize for Clinton. The win was the last in the line of states won by the former First Lady in the final phase of the Democratic battle for nomination. Obama, on the other hand, has managed to secure the support of enough delegates to bring him close to the threshold of nomination despite losing out on popular votes.
