March 5, 2008: The Republican Primary at Texas - March 4 has been won by the frontrunner from the party, Sen. John McCain. McCain has received 51% of the popular votes, followed by Mike Huckabee with 38% votes. 138 of the 140 delegates from the States were tied to the March 4 Primary. 70 of them have already pledged their support in favor of McCain. However, 98% of the precincts have reported as of now, and the final results are yet to be declared. The delegate distribution will become clear as soon as the final results of popular votes are declared.
There was almost equal gender representation in the GOP Primary at Texas. 51% of the total voters were male, and a majority of the electorates belonged to the age group between 45 and 59 years. The percentage of senior voters was also high with 31% of the total number of voters belonging to the age group of 60 and above.
A win for McCain was expected in Texas because of his immense popularity among the Hispanic voters, who account for a large share of the State's electoral strength. He drafted the liberal immigration bill, which ultimately was not implemented. It was meant to provide easy citizenship for unregistered immigrants.
