
March 5, 2008: John McCain predictably won the
Ohio Republican Primary - March 4. McCain has emerged as the clear frontrunner for the Republican nomination to the Presidential post, particularly after the withdrawal of Sen. Mitt Romney from the race. Reports have been received from 92% of the participating precincts. According to the latest results, Sen. John McCain has secured 60% of the popular votes, well ahead of Mike Huckabee who has received only 31% votes. Ron Paul is a distant third with only 5% votes.
Ohio has a strength of 85 delegates for the National Convention, and McCain has finalized the support of 79 of them till now. It is expected that he will win the support of all 85 delegates, once the final results are out, on the basis of his wide margin of win and the 'winner takes all' system followed in most Republican Primaries.
54% of the total GOP voters were male, and a large number of voters belonged to the senior category. 33% of the total electorate strength was of 60 years or above. Voters between the age of 45 and 59 accounted for 32% of the total voters.
