Republican Primary at North Carolina –May6

May 8, 2008: The Republican Primary at North Carolina – May 6 was comfortably won by frontrunner John McCain, with 74% of the popular votes. Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul finished at distant second and third positions, with 12% and 7% votes respectively. North Carolina has a total strength of 69 primaries, of which 66 tied for the May 6 Primary. McCain is expected to carry them all, on the basis of the winner takes all system followed in most Republican Primaries.

McCain's win in the North Carolina GOP Primary came on expected lines, as all the major contenders have already withdrawn from the nomination race, and have pledged to stand by McCain instead. It now remains to be seen, what percentage of these votes get translated into Presidential votes on the Election Day, which is on November 4.
