Mike Huckabee emerged victorious in the
Alabama Republican Primary - February 5, defeating his strong rivals, John McCain and Mitt Romney. Huckabee was declared the projected winner in the Republican primaries in Alabama after securing 41% votes as against 37% of John McCain.
Among the other Republican candidates, Mitt Romney finished in the third place with 18% of the votes. Romney however made a comeback in the other states on Super Tuesday, winning in Utah, North Dakota, Massachusetts and Minnesota.
Rudy Giuliani and
Ron Paul remained way behind the two other Republican candidates.
According to the county exit poll results of Alabama, February 5, almost all the state precincts participated in the election. 53% of male voters were active participants in the election along with 47% of the female voters. The republicans also gathered 35% votes from the senior citizens of the society.
The presence of a high percentage of the conservative and evangelical voters is attributed for the clear win of the Baptist minister, Huckabee.
Sen. Mike Huckabee's win in the February 5 Republican Alabama Primaries secured another southern state for him along with Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri and Georgia on Super Tuesday.
