April 23, 2008: John McCain has expectedly won the the Pennsylvania Republican Presidential Primary-April 22 defeating his nearest rival Ron Paul by an overwhelming margin of nearly 60% of popular votes. McCain secured 73% votes, as compared to 16% by Paul. Mike Huckabee, who has already withdrawn his candidature from the race, has finished a distant third with 11% votes in the Pennsylvania Primary.
Pennsylvania has a strength of 74 delegates tied for the April 22 Primary. John McCain, who has already emerged as the Republican frontrunner for the US Presidential Election to be held on 4th November 2008, is expected to carry them all.
McCain addressed a congregation of cheering supporters at Dallas after the declaration of the result of the GOP Primary at Pennsylvania yesterday. In his speech, he stated that he can now declare with humility and confidence that he will be the Republican candidate for the next US Presidential Election. He further stated that he is well aware of the responsibility and the prestige associated with the post, and stated that the contest has begun.
