Feb. 16, 2008: Some great news awaited Barack Obama and his supporters on Friday, just days before the Feb. 19 Primaries at Wisconsin and Hawaii. The Service Employees International Union (SIEU), a strong association with a membership in excess of 1.9 million chose to extend support to Sen. Obama at Washington yesterday.
Barack Obama is expected to win at both the states that will go in for the Primaries on Tuesday. Wisconsin is neighbor to Illinois, where Obama is the Senator and he also enjoys high popularity in the Hawaii Islands.
Obama has been campaigning at Wisconsin throughout the week, where he has raised his concern about the increasing trend of gun violence in America, which has jeopardized individual security.
Obama statement came as a reaction to the heinous incident at the University of North Illinois campus, where a gunman shot down five students and then committed suicide yesterday. Obama stated that he respected an individual’s right to carry arms and supported the Second Amendment, but at the same time he believed that the standard of individual security in the US needs to be enhanced.
Echoing his concerns, his rival for the Democrat nomination, Sen. Hillary Clinton stated while campaigning in Ohio, that security for the children was of paramount importance. She stressed that arms be kept out of the reach of the criminals, killers, gangsters, terrorists, and mentally deranged individuals.
The Republican Primary at Wisconsin is also being held on the 19th of February, Tuesday. John McCain is clearly the favorite before the primaries. Campaigning at Wisconsin, McCain has lashed out at Obama for his undecided stance on public funding. He said that he will be keeping his promise of accepting public funding for the campaigns, and expected any Presidential candidate to do so. However, he doubted whether Obama would keep to his commitment and accept public funding. He suspected that Obama will continue to make use of his highly effective fundraising operations to support his nation-wide campaigns.
