John McCain defeated his rival candidate Mike Huckabee by 51% popular votes. 3,929 votes were secured by John McCain, whereas Huckabee got 961 votes. 16 delegates were tied for the February 12 Republican Presidential Primary DC election. Each of these delegates had cast their votes in favor of the winning candidate John McCain. Ron Paul and Brit Romney secured the 3rd and 4th positions respectively with 471 and 350 votes.
