Wisconsin Democratic Primary - Feb. 19

Feb.20, 2008: Barack Obama has been successful in winning the Wisconsin Democratic Primary - Feb. 19. Obama defeated his nearest rival, Sen. Hillary Clinton by a margin of 15% popular votes. Wisconsin has a total of 92 delegates, of which 74 were tied to the Feb. 19 Primary. Although the delegate distribution has not yet been finalized, yet Obama has secured the support of 20 delegates till now. Sen. Clinton, on the other hand has 14 delegates by her side as par the latest news.

An excess of 74% of the precincts reported for the Wisconsin Primary. There were a high number of female voters, who accounted for 58% of the total votes. A majority of the voters belonged to the age group between 45 and 59. There were a high percentage of senior voters as well.

The win at the Wisconsin Democratic Primary is a very significant one for Obama, as he continues his dream run that has started from the Super Tuesday onwards. Obama has managed to draw a good section of the women voters, the white voters and the voters from the low income group in his support. These sections were the strongest supporters of Clinton at the beginning of the Primary season. These groups of voters are significant additions to Obama's already settled popularity among the young voters and the independent voters.

The next stage of Primaries at Ohio and Texas are extremely crucial, presenting Sen. Clinton with almost a 'must win' situation. The results of these Primaries, to be held on March 4 will be nearly decisive in selecting the Democratic nomination for the Presidency.
