
March 5, 2008: Sen. Hillary Clinton rode high on the wide popularity of the Clintons in the State to win the Rhode Island Democratic Primary - March 4. She defeated her nearest rival Sen. Barack Obama by a margin of 18% votes. Sen. Clinton received 58% of the popular votes, while Sen. Obama won 40% of the popular votes.
21 delegates tied to the March 4 Primary at Rhode Island. The State has a strength of 33 delegates, of which 12 are unpledged superdelegates. Clinton has secured the support of 12 delegates to the National Convention, whereas Obama has got the support of 8 delegates. One delegate vote still remains to be decided. However, it is expected that the final delegate distribution will become clear, once all the precincts complete their reports.
