
March 5, 2008: Hillary Clinton has recorded a crucial win in the
Ohio Democratic Primary- March 4. A win in this delegate rich State was extremely important for the New York Senator after conceding defeat in as many as 11 Primaries to Illinois Senator Barack Obama. This was a welcome win for Clinton after Obama virtually swept through the Primaries following the Super Tuesday showdown.
Although the final results are yet to be announced, yet reports have been declared from 92% of the participating precincts. As par the latest results, Sen. Clinton has secured 55% of the popular votes, 12% ahead of Barack Obama. Ohio has a strength of 162 delegates to the National Convention, including 21 super delegates. According to the latest reports, Sen. Clinton has secured the support of 62 delegates for the National Convention, as compared to 46 delegates for Barack Obama.
There was heavy attendance at the Ohio Primaries, despite foul weather that hit certain parts of this largely industrial State. 59% of the total electorate was female, while male accounted for the remaining 41%. 33% of the total voters belonged to the age group between 45 and 59, while there were a considerable percentage of senior voters (above 60) as well.
