
The state of New York is one of the 24 states that went through the primary process on the Super Tuesday (5th February, 2008). The New York Democratic Primary - 5th February witnessed 63 % participation from the state's precincts. According to the New York Democratic Primary Result, Clinton was declared as the Projected Winner of the state. The Democrats account for 47 % of the total 11,222,042 registered voters in New York.
Clinton has defeated his closest rival Obama with a margin of 219438 popular votes. The projected winner has secured 59 % of the popular votes and 20 delegates. Obama has secured 39 % popular votes and won 11 delegates. Edwards is in the third position, with 1 % votes.
The total number of democrat delegates in New York is 281 among which, 232 are tied delegates and 49 are super delegates.
The official statistics say that 42 % of the total voters were male and 58 % were female. Majority (33 %) of the voters belonged to the age group between 45 and 59 and 30 % of the voters were from the above 60 age group.
