Illinois Democratic Primary - Feb 5 saw a neck to neck fight between the two strong candidates, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Barack Obama was the Projected Winner winning 1,301,954 votes which constitutes 65% of the votes while Clinton garnered 662,845 votes which formed 33% of the total votes cast. John Edwards captured 39,001 votes which added up to only 2% of the votes.
There were 185 delegates casting their valuable votes for the US election, including 153 super delegates and 153 tied to the primary on 5th February. Obama secured 83 delegate votes and Clinton received 42 delegate votes reportedly. The total number of registered voters was 7,427,886.
The participation of the precincts was overwhelming at 99% on February 5. Among the voters 41% were male voters and 59% were female voters. People belonging to different age groups have cat their votes on 5th February. Among the voters 15% were between 18-29 years of age, 30% votes were cast by people belonging to the age group of 30-40, while people between 45 and 59 cast 32% votes and people above 60 cast 23% votes.
