The Minnesota Democratic Caucuses - February 5 saw a win for Illinois Senator Barack Obama. He defeated his nearest rival Sen. Hillary Clinton by a margin of 35% votes. Sen. Obama secured 67% popular votes, whereas Clinton secured 32% votes. Obama secured the support of a whooping 48 delegates, double of the number of delegates won by Sen. Clinton. Minnesota has a strength of 88 delegates, including 72 delegates tied to the Super Tuesday and 16 superdelegates. 1% of the total registered Democrats chose to remain uncommitted.
There was high attendance at the Minnesota Caucus for the Democrats as 89% of the total precincts reported for the polls. It was a significant win for Sen. Obama. It was expected that Obama's would emerge as a favorite in all the states that hold caucuses, because of his efficient infrastructure at the grassroots. True to the speculation, he won the Minnesota Caucus with comparative ease.
