The voting system of Electoral College is currently in practice in US. In this system, every US state elects a few electors, who ultimately cast their votes to elect the US President. But, there are some proposals of alternative methods of choosing electors in US. One of them is Interstate Compact. This alternative system comes under the agreement of National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. In this system, the US states come into an agreement in which their electors are allocated to the candidate, who has won the maximum popular vote of the country; the electoral votes no longer go to the candidate with the maximum votes within a state. This system has not come into effect largely because most of the states have not agreed with this system. This legislation has been passed only by Maryland.
The US Constitution states on Article II, Section 1 that under this system every US state will have to appoint that number of electors, which they are entitled to produce at present in the US Congress as Senators and Representatives. If the Interstate Compact comes into effect, the system of Electoral College will gradually be put off.
