George H.W Bush was the 41st President of the United States of America. Belonging to the Republican Party, President Bush was in office from 1989-1993. He competed against Michael Dukakis of the Democratic Party and won the Presidential Elections of 1988.
George H.W Bush is one of the most well known Presidents of the United States of America. He was born on 12th June 1924 in Massachusetts, USA. Soon after his birth, the Bush family shifted to Greenwich, Connecticut. President Bush had a sound formal education. His education began in the Greenwich County Day School. The next phase of his education was carried out in the Phillips Academy. From his school days, it was evident that George H.W Bush had excellent leadership qualities. He headed several committees in his school. He was also an avid sportsman, as he was the captain of the Yale University soccer and baseball teams. In 1945, he married Barbara Pierce.

George H.W Bush committed himself to the welfare of the United States of America from a very young age. At the age of 18, he was already a part of the US Navy. He was the youngest pilot, who had shown the capacity to fly 58 combat missions in the Second World War. He was also a torpedo bomber pilot, and was shot down by a Japanese anti aircraft before a US submarine rescued him. The Distinguished Flying Cross was awarded to him as a sign of bravery.
Gradually, President Bush turned his interest towards politics. He was a Congress Representative from Texas for two terms. Apart from that he had also served in many high-profile positions in the United States. Some of the important offices that he held were as follows:

In 1980, had contested for the Presidential Elections, but got defeated and became the Vice-President during the Presidency of Ronald Reagan. He was the 43rd Vice-President of the country and remained in office from 1981-1989. During his active Vice-Presidential,Bush visited a number of foreign countries for diplomatic missions.
In 1988, he contested for the Presidential Elections again and won by a wide margin. He had Senator Dan Quayle from Indiana as his running mate. His tenure as the President saw the collapse of Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War. President Mikhail Gorbachev had to step down. The expertise of Bush in matters of foreign affairs and international diplomacy were well exhibited during his tenure as the President. He sent American troops to Panama to restrict General Manuel Noriega from disturbing peace conditions in the Panama Canal. Bush was placed under immense stress when the President of Iraq, Saddam Hussain attacked Kuwait and planned to invade Saudi Arabia. Bush decided to free Kuwait and sent almost 425,000 American troops to the place. They were again joined by several allied troops, and Kuwait was finally saved through long and protracted battle.
By the end of his tenure in 1993, Bush's formidable international stature was dampened by widespread resentment back home. There was huge spending on the wars that went deficit from the economy. Violence also erupted in the inner cities of the country. However, his global reputation sustained him even through the worst of his times. Even after his Presidential tenure, he remained a popular figure.
