Libertarian Party



The Libertarian Party is a significant and influential political party of the United States which was founded in the year 1971. It is the third biggest U.S. political party which is very much active till date and has more than 200,000 registered voters under its banner. The Libertarian Party strongly supports the cause of libertarianism with minimum government intervention in different fields, more civil liberties and respects the idea of free trade between different foreign nations. The party is a strong supporter of individual rights and it is one of the most important mottos of the party.

The history of Libertarian Party of america has its base in a small group of members who collectively formed a party in Colorado with an intention to create an alternative party which supported individual freedom. The year 2001 was one of the most successful years in the history of the Libertarian Party as 96 people of this party were elected to 96 public posts and the same year it completed 30 years. Though the party saw a decrease in membership after the September 11 attacks, the membership rebounded back by 4.3% in the year 2003.

The Libertarian Party has been an important part of the U.S Presidential elections with lots of Libertarian Party candidates being nominated every year. For the 2008 elections, some of the members who have been nominated from the party include-Ed Thompson, Bob Jackson, George Phillies, Christine Smith, Steve Kubby, Alden Link, Jim Burns, Dan Imperato, Robert Milnes and Dave Hollist among others. All these candidates of the Libertarian Party are strong contenders for the post of next U.S. President.
