Jesse Johnson was born near Lebanon in Wilson County on 18th November 1812. After his initial academic education Jesse Johnson's career began in 1836 Seminole War as the captain of mounted volunteers.
After the completion of his degree in law he joined the bar council in 1838 and moved his base to Mississippi County in 1840. He became a member of the senate in 1841.
In 1842, Jesse Johnson moved to Memphis and continued practicing law. The political career of Jesse Johnson began after he was elected as the mayor of Memphis in 1845. He moved to Mariana by the end of next year.
In 1850 he was elected to the State senate of Florida. From 1853 to 1861 Jesse Johnson remained as the judge of the western circuit in Florida. The same year he was also appointed in Confederate States court for the district of Florida as a judge.
In 1893 he was promoted to the post of brigadier general at Confederate Army. He was a member of the Forty-Seventh Congress. He took active part in politics for the rest of his life.
