Mike Gravel

As an American politician of success and eminence, Mike Gravel started his political career as a dedicated member of the US Democratic Party. As far as his overall career is concerned, politics forms the indispensable and inseparable part, accounting for his worldwide acclaims.

Born in Massachusetts, Springfield Former Senator Maurice Robert Gravel is of French parentage, who later migrated to the Canadian mainland for permanent settlement. Mike Gravel attended the French-speaking schools in Canada, and after growing up, he did not have any intention of attending the parental construction business. Contrary, he was highly ambitious of pursuing a career in politics, so became involved in Springfield local party politics for sometime. It was since then that he developed a passion and ardent interest for governmental activities. As far his formal education is concerned, he is a B.S. in Economics from New York’s Columbia University and also has four honorary degrees in subjects like public affairs and law. He also served the US military forces for three years from 1951 to 1954. He is married to Whitney Stewart Gravel.

As far as the political career of Democrat Mike Gravel is concerned, he was elected to the House of Representatives from 1963 to 1966 and acted as the Speaker from 1965 to 1966. As representative of the Democrats in Alaska, he was elected to the US Senate from 1969 to 1981. Apart from this, this American politician gained diverse experiences while serving departments like Interior, Environmental, Finance, Energy, Construction and Pollution.
