The race to the White House has reached its conclusive phase and now there are two major players left in the field- The Republican and the Democrats. The Democratic party candidate, Barack Obama is believed to be ahead of his Republican rival, John McCain, and it seems that Democratic party, the oldest political party of the United States will make it to the most coveted political address in the world.
The Democratic Party of US traces its origin to the Democrat- Republican party founded by Sir Thomas Jefferson in 1793. The party bifurcated in 1912 and thus were born – Republican Party and Democratic Party. With its libertarian views on the major social issues and standing in left to the Republican party on economic matters, Democratic party was judged the largest single political party in US, according to a voters' poll conducted in 2004. Claiming the trust of more than fifty percent of population of US, the Democratic party got numbers of candidatures for the 2008 Presidential nominee of the party . Some of the noted names among them include: Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John Edwards, Mike Gravel, Bill Richardson, Chris Dodd and Joe Biden.
It was a close call between senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama but finally Illinois Senator, Obama prevailed in the last and became the official 2008 Democrat Candidate for the presidential elections.
Barack Hussein Obama was born on August 4, 1961 to American mother and African father. Brought up in Hawaii and Indonesia, he graduated from the University of Columbia. This maverick has been serving as a US junior Senator from Illinois since 1995.
Barack Obama has chosen Joe Biden, another great and experienced Democrat as a running mate for the post of Vice President. Both these leaders have been making waves for their ideologies and their reaction to the current US condition especially the economic crisis. Obama is believed to have been leading the race with the trust of more than 210 Congressman while McCain, the Republican candidate is said to have 170 votes in his kitty. But the final outcome of the event will be decided mainly by the swinging states.
