Virginia Candidates

The Republican and Democratic Party candidates have filed their nominations in the Exploratory Committee in big numbers from the state of Virginia to contest the 2008 US Presidential Election. These Virginia candidates include heavyweight candidates like Fred Thompson and Mike Gravel.

The candidates to have filed their nomination to run for the Virginia Elections for the honorable post of US President as representatives of Republican Party include:
  • Fred Thompson – The voter registration of this candidate was switched to Virginia in the year of 2006. Prior to it, he was the US Senator of Tennessee from 1994 to 2003. He is one of the potential candidates of the Republican Party to run for the post of US President. Few of the issues, which he is addressing in his Presidential campaigns, include a united America, the lowering of taxes and a healthier military.

  • Jerry Johnson – He had earlier contested the elections for US Senate and State Representative from Georgia. He aims at remodeling the 17th Amendment. According to his suggested model, the US states should each be reduced in size so that it requires a single US Senator. The states, according to him, should be equipped with federal judges, who will serve terms for 3 years.
The Democratic candidates to have filed their nominations from Virginia include:
  • Mike Gravel – He is thought to be the candidate with the maximum potential to run from the state of Virginia as a representative of the Democratic Party in the US Election 2008. He is actively involved in politics since long and was a member of the Senate of the United States of America from 1969 to 1981. He is pressurizing the government to bring back troops from the land of Iraq and feels that federal budget should be used in education and not in war. He also professes the equal rights for the gays and lesbians.

  • Warren Ashe – He had earlier filed his nominations for the Presidential race in 2000 and 2004. But, he could not qualify for the primaries. Once again, he has filed the paperwork for the Presidential race of 2008.
Few other candidates to have submitted the paperwork include:
  • William R. Koenig (Republican Party)
  • Wrendo J.P. Godwin (Democratic Party)
