Zoological Garden Zurich

Zoological Garden Zurich is situated on the hill, Zürichberg, located on the eastern fringe of the city. It is often credited as one of the best zoos in the continent with its huge collection of mammals, predators, aves, arboreal and aquatic animals.

Zoological Garden in Zurich works under private entrepreneurship and is partially aided by the Zurich canton and city. The zoo was inaugurated in the year 1929 and spreads over a sprawling area of 10 hectares. The zoo comprises of approximately 2,100 animals of 330 variegated species placed in different compartments and cells.

The animal world of Zoological Garden of Zurich contains a rare collection of snow leopards, vicunas, Rothschild's mynah birds, Arabian oryx, pygmy hogs, Indian lions and Amur leopards. The red pandas, otters and different species of predators are housed in special enclosures. The Africa House, elephant house, terrariums, giant-tortoise house and the ape house are a must visit for the traveler. Within the Zurich Zoological Garden is the Masoala rain forest which is a special project of the zoo. Multifarious fauna is preserved in the forested area of the zoo. Guided tours are conducted within the zoo by specialists appointed by the zoological center.

Zoological Garden at Zurich remains open from 9 A.M to 6 P.M between the months of March and October. The timings change to 9 A.M to 5 P.M between the months of November and February. A visit to Zoological Garden Zurich ensures an enriching tour of wildlife and an increase in the knowledge about the ecological system of the earth.
