Zurich Opera House, also known as Opernhaus, is popular among the music lovers. It is known to host a number of operas, operettas, ballets and musicals, which are performed throughout the year except during the months of July and August. It is noteworthy that the Opera House at Zurich has a capacity to hold about 1100 people.
Zurich Opera House came into existence in the 1920s, when the name of Stadttheater Zurich, one of the popular theaters of the region, was changed to Operahaus Zurich. Gradually, the theater lost its glory and a new theater was offered to be made at the same site. However, the Opera House was overhauled in the 20th century, when the building was in a pitiable condition. The building was recreated in the 1980s in spite of the immense opposition from the local people. Among the first shows that were premiered in the theater were Der Kirschgarten and Die Meistersinger von Numberg.
The Opera House of Zurich is one of the ornate buildings that is beautified with gray and white stones. The property is known for its asymmetrical ornamentations and rococo style. One can also find the busts of Schiller, Mozart, Weber, Shakespeare, Goethe and Wagner at the Opera House in Zurich.
