Stammersdorf is the 21st district of Vienna. It is a district which developed around the Trans Danube region in the northern part of Vienna. This place was previously an uninhabited place but later developed into a land on which people could reside and hence a district was formed. It is bordered by Strebersdorf in the west, Grossjedlersdorf in the south and by Leoppoldau in the east.
Stammersdorf in Vienna is subdivided onto various parts. The oldest part of the district is known as Oberort where traces of the first settlement, dating back to 2000 BC, are found. Next portion is the Unterot which emerged with the emergence of the Vienna-Brno Street. The last half of the district is the newest incorporation known as the Neustammersdorf and was developed during the 1990s.
The wine shops of Stammersdorf are very popular among the tourists. Though the shops are devoid of any kind of ornamentation yet they are visited by the tourists for their sheer simplicity. The price of wine is cheap in Stammersdorf in comparison to the other places of Austria. The cellar houses in Kellerstrasse are worth a watch since they process the wine. This processing makes the wine richer and tastier.
Stammersdorf of Vienna has been a witness to a number of wars and has experienced destruction a number of times through various means. In the period between 1669 and 1713 a large population died due to an epidemic. It was followed by the devastation caused by fire in 1850. However, the place has grown out of all those memories and has emerged as one of the major tourist spots of Vienna, Austria. During the Second World War an aircraft factory was constructed in this place since it was considered to be a safe place in Vienna. The left overs of this factory could still be found here. Vienna's Stammersdorf is therefore a place which the tourists cannot afford to miss.
