Kapuzinergruft

Kapuzinergruft (Imperial crypt) is an indoor burial structure in which significant members of the Habsburg family are consecrated. It has been serving as the burial ground for the Habsburg family since 1633. A total of 12 emperors, 15 empresses and 100 archdukes are resting in peace, carefully guarded by Capuchin monks.

It's a learning experience of genealogy of one of Europe's most noble families, wandering around Kapuzinergruft. Emperor Matthias who was the founder of this crypt as well as his wife Anna are buried in the first room. The most significant last burial was that of Zita. She was Austria's last empress. She died in 1989 while in exile. Zita was buried with imperial pomp in Vienna Kapuzinergruft. This is now one of the popular Vienna attractions.
