St Jakob-Park is among the four Euro 2008 venues in Switzerland. In fact, it will host some of the most important matches of Euro 2008.
St. Jakob-Park was inaugurated on April 25th, 1954. The stadium underwent major renovations and was opened for the second time in 2001. The first match played here was between Germany and Switzerland. Situated at the south eastern fringes of the city of Basel, St. Jakob-Park has a capacity of more than 33,000. It is one of the largest football stadiums of Switzerland.
The stadium is more than 50 years old and is one of the landmarks of the city. The stadium has been modernized in recent times to comply with the best internationals standards. St. Jakob-Park has been modified into one of the finest multipurpose stadiums of the Swiss country. The architectural parts were designed by world famous architects Herzog and De Meuron.
Apart from domestic and international football matches, the stadium complex acts as the venue for different cultural and social events that include open air rick shows, fairs, exhibitions, meetings, conferences and more. The stadium boasts of top of the line press box, media center, sports bar and other facilities.
