Tiergarten Hellbrunn is a zoo in Salzburg which is home to 800 animals belonging to 140 different species. The zoo is spread over an area of 14 hectares. The zoo is famous for this diversity of animals and transports the visitors into a different world all together, a world of beasts.
Tiergarten Hellbrunn is situated in the southern part of Salzburg. Visitors are provided the facility of roaming around the zoo on wheels. No special permit is required for children. There is a restaurant in the zoo premises and special provisions are there for disabled tourists. Feeding of animals by tourists is not allowed since the zoo authorities are concerned about the health of the animals. However, dwarf goats could be fed in small amounts with the dry breads that are available at the store in the premises of the zoo.
Tiergarten Hellbrunn of Salzburg was established in 1619 while it was conceived by Archbishop Marcus Sittikus in 1612. As soon as the zoo was established the authority began importing animals from various parts of the world. Among the various species of animals the dwarf mouse, the giant rhino, weighing 3600 kg, the cheetah and the griffon vulture form the main attractions of the Tiergarten Hellbrunn in Salzburg.
There are certain rules which the visitors have to follow. They are:
Talking in a loud voice or screaming is not allowed because the animals feel disturbed
Dogs are allowed inside the zoo but they are entirely the responsibility of the owner.
Feeding of animals by visitors is not allowed, the only exception being the dwarf goats.
Children below 14 years of age are permitted inside the zoo only with their parents.
Visitors should be careful enough not to jump across the boundaries, a safe distance from the animals should be maintained in order to avoid any kind of risk.
The visitors are requested not to squander their belongings in the zoo as it is kept clean.
The Tiergarten Hellbrunn at Salzburg opens at 9:00 in the morning everyday and shuts down at 11:00 in the night. Visitors are allowed inside the zoo latest by 9:30.
The entry fee for an adult is EURO 8 and for children below 14 years of age the fee is EURO 6.
