Schloss Leopoldskron is a very famous building, which forms an important part of the Salzburg attractions. It is a colossal castle, one of the most exquisite and elaborate piece of architecture in the country of Austria. Thousands of tourists throng the palace of Leopoldskron to witness the wonderful and ornate design.
Schloss Leopoldskron in Salzburg, which is also known as the Leopoldskron Castle, is situated beside the small picturesque lake, Leopoldskroner Weiher. The grand building is famous for the ornate stucco works that it proudly displays; the majority of which is seen in the Festsaal ceremonial hall and the Chapel. The artist who worked on this was Johann Kleber. Initially, this antique edifice consisted of an octagonal tower in the middle and 3 floors. The decorative walls are embellished by some stunning paintings of eminent artists.
After the World War I, Leopoldskron was bought by the man, who founded the Salzburg Festival, Max Reinhardt. He rendered a new life to the Leopoldskron Castle of Salzburg, which had by that time started showing signs of decaying. He renovated the entire edifice and used it for social gatherings during the Festival.
Although Schloss Leopoldskron at Salzburg is not open to the public, one can take a leisurely walk round the building and appreciate the elegant exterior of it. The Leopoldskroner Weiher Lake by the side of the castle is like a bonus to the visitors. At present, the castle is owned by the Salzburg Seminar, an organization founded after World War I, by Harvard Graduates.
