Salzburger Glockenspiel

Salzburger Glockenspiel forms one of the main tourist attractions of Salzburg in Austria. This famous architecture of Salzburg is located at Mozartplatz, one of the most important centres of the city. It is a tower known as the New Building of the Residenz or the Neue Residenz, which was the government palace of Prince Archbishop Wolf Dietrich.

The tower has as many as 35 bells hidden inside it. These bells were financed by Prince Archbishop Johann Ernst Graf Thun, who wanted to eternalize his name by associating himself with the construction of this famous tower. The bells inside the Salzburger Glockenspiel vary in their sizes. The weight of the smallest bell is 16 kg while the largest bell weighs as much as 380 kg.

The bells at the Salzburger Glockenspiel in Austria produce tender sounds of the clock. They play the tunes of Mozart and Michael Haydn, the legendary musicians who were born in Austria. These bells were made in the year 1696 by Melchior de Haze. They rang for the first time in 1704. Since then, the melodies of the bells are changed every month. They ring at 7 am, 11 am and at 6 pm. The details about the selected music are given at a notice board at the corner of the Residenz building. The chiming of the clock is followed by the bull organ, which is one of the oldest musical instruments of the world and is placed at the Hohensalzburg Fortress.

The Cafe Glockenspiel, which is one of the most popular meeting places of the city, is located conveniently close to the tower. It helps the visitors to hear the carillon of the bells while enjoying the excellent ambiance of the cafe. The Salzburger Glockenspiel of Austria is one of the most popular tourist attractions of the continent of Europe and is visited regularly by several tourists.
