Basel, June 11- A rain-soaked game between Group A teams Turkey and Switzerland ended in Turkey winning the match 2-0 against Switzerland. The victory has revived Turkey's hope of making it to the Euro 2008 Quarter Finals. This, though, would be decided by the game between Turkey and Czech Republic on Sunday, June 15th. Switzerland, even it wins its next match, will be finishing off the Group A game in the fourth place.
The rains came pouring down 10 minutes after the Switzerland-Turkey game had started. The weather conditions, though very wet, could not stop both the teams from struggling for victory. Turkey coach Fatih Terim had to make three changes, due to injuries, to his starling line-up. Swiss coach Jacob Kuhn had brought in Eren Derdiyok and Hakan Yakin who challenged Turkey's Demirel quite hard.
It was Switzerland that scored first with Hakan Yakin giving his team its only goal in the 32nd minute. The Turks had dominated the field during the early part of the match but Switzerland had gained control midway through the first half. But soon after the first goal, Semih Senturk of Turkey equalized the score. His forceful header drove the ball straight into the net passed Benaglio.
The second goal from Turkey came just when the match was heading for a draw. This time it was Arda Turan who turned out invaluable for Turkey. His forceful kick from the edge of the box flew in off a stunned Patrick Müller. Turkey's last minute goal has kicked the Swiss team out of Euro Cup 2008 tournament. Turkey will now have to face the Czechs and their performance in the Sunday match will decide their fate in this tournament.
