Bern June 17- Netherlands rounded off Its Euro 2008 Group C campaign with a 2-0 victory over Romania. This is the third successive victory of the Dutch and Romania's farewell to the Euro Cup 2008 championship. Three points would have sealed Romania's presence in the tournament quarter finals. But, two goals from Netherlands took away Romania's hopes of making it to the quarter finals. Instead, Italy will join the Dutch in the last eight from the 'Group of Death'.
Romania coach changed the line up retaining only Khalid Boulahrouz and Orlando Engelaar from the previous XI. Netherlands started off well with more ball possession. Yet, the early exchanges saw the Dutch do no better than attack once with an Engelaar shot that was saved by Cristian Chivu. The Netherlands-Romania match picked up pace as Van Persie of Netherlands headed wide and then Romania's Adrian Mutu threatened their rivals.
Some glaring misses made by Romania players prevented the team from getting the lead. Italy opened the scoring in the 55th minute when Huntelaar struck right in time to put the ball into the net past Lobont. To add to Romania's frustration, news came in that Italy had won against France in the other group C match being held in Zürich the same evening. Romania failed to get more of ball possession and tried to strengthen their defense. But they required goals to reach the quarter finals.
Finally, Netherlands doubled their advantage as Van Persie struck a second goal in the 88th minute, thus helping Italy get the Group C runners up position. The Dutch will meet either Sweden or Russia in the last eight, while Romania gets the third position in Group C and has to bid farewell to the tournament.
