June 9, 2008 (1100 hrs GMT): With two goals from German striker Lukas Podolski, Germany has strengthened its place in Eurocup 2008. Though the team’s defense lacked confidence in the beginning, the Germans in no time had taken over. Not only did the Polish strikers made efforts that flew over, their defense was in danger as the Germans picked up pace.
Poland had begun Euro2008 with a good start. Pitted against its rivals, the indomitable German team, the Polish footballers had begun the match keeping the Germans on chase. Krzynowek made a good effort to strike a goal, but the ball flew over. Soon after, the Germans took over and with Podolski running for the ball, a goal was inevitable. But, Clemens Fritz made a cross from the right.
German defense lacked confidence as Poland attacked several times. But, Poland gained no positive result. After the first 20 minutes of the game, the German players cut through the Polish Defense. Gomez passed over the ball to Miroslav Kolse who passed it over to Lukas Podolski. Podolski lost no time in shooting and Germans started leading with one goal.
On one hand, Poland tried to score but, in vain and on the other hand the team struggled to defend themselves from striker Lukas Podolski. As the first half came to an end, the two teams were fighting hard with Germany in the lead. The score was:
Germany 1-0 Poland
The second half of Euro2008 Germany-Poland match started with the same note of excitement as did the first. Germany took time to get back in rhythm and Poland was faring better. In 20 minutes, Philipp Lahm and Michael Ballack gave Germany the kick off it needed. The game became more interesting as Gomez, once again, made a fine pass to Klose who passed it over to Lukas Podolski. Germany got its second score as Podolski made another goal.
Poland had nothing else to do but try and a good try it made. The Germans hit back with a strong defense and a few good strikes. But, Podolski’s doubles had decided the match results. It wasn’t, after all, very difficult for Germany to get a smooth victory.
