France became the
Euro Cup 2000 winner on 2nd of July, 2000, by defeating Italy in the final match. The winning goal was scored by David Trezeguet. It gave France a Golden Goal victory. France advanced to the Euro Cup 2000 through the qualifiers and was placed in Group D along with Netherlands, Denmark and Czech Republic.
France started their Euro Cup 2000 campaign with a 3-0 win over Denmark and followed it up with a 2-1 victory over Czech Republic. However, they lost by 2-3 in their last group league match against Netherlands. France advanced to the knock-out stages of the tournament as the group runners. They defeated Spain in the quarter finals by two goals to one to go into the semi-finals. There they faced Portugal. The match ended in a 2-1 golden goal victory for France, putting them through to the finals of the 2000 Euro Cup.
In the final match of Euro Cup, 2000, France trailed Italy by a 56th minute goal by Delvecchio till Wiltord restored parity in the 90th minute. A golden goal was made by David Trezeguet to become the
Euro Cup 2000 winner. This was their second Euro title, the first one being in 1984.
