Mascots were introduced for the first time at the Euro Cup in 1980. The
Euro Cup 1984 Mascot, which was a rooster named Peno, became extremely popular as the tournament approached. It succeeded the abstract mascot Pinoccio of Italy 1980.
Peno was modeled on a smiling goalkeeper, with a football held in one hand. The other hand is stretched in a way, which makes the rooster seem to be giving instructions to other players on the pitch.
Peno is clad in a blue full sleeved jersey and white shorts. This yellow beaked rooster is also wearing white gloves and black sporting shoes. This cartoon character, Peno, became extremely popular during the days of the Euro 1984 as the
Euro Cup 1984 Mascots.
