Euro Cup 1984 is still remembered by the football lovers for the class of soccer, each team displayed. The qualifying rounds of the tournament had started in 1982. It had as many as 32 teams of Europe competing for a place in the final stage.
The final round of the European Nations’ Cup 1984, as the Euro Cup was then known as, was held in France between 12th June and 27th June, 1984. The tournament started with the group stages. The first semi-final was played on the 23rd of June at Marseille. Lyon hosted the second semi-final on the next day. The final was played on the 27th of June at the Parc des Princes stadium in Paris.
Though 32 teams participated in the qualifying rounds of the Euro 1984, only seven of them qualified for the finals. Apart from the host France, who did not have to appear in the qualifying rounds, the remaining seven teams were Denmark, Spain, Portugal, West Germany, Romania, Yugoslavia and Belgium. France emerged as the champions, with neighbors Spain finishing runner-up. Michel Platini of France was the highest scorer of the tournament with nine goals on his name.
