Euro Cup 1960 schedule started with the qualifying rounds in the year 1958. The different rounds of the tournament were spanned over two years, from the end of 1958 to July, 1960. At that time, this tournament was known as the European Nations Cup. The main round of the tournament began on the 6th of July, 1960 and culminated into the final on the 10th of July at the Parc des Princes of Paris, France.

Next were the eighth finals, in which the main contenders of the European Nations Cup 1960 locked horns. USSR, Portugal, France and Austria easily went past Hungary, East Germany, Greece and Norway respectively. The four other teams to qualify for the quarter finals were Romania, Spain, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia.
The quarter finals came next in the schedule of European Championships 1960, which were held between December, 1959 and May, 1960. Yugoslavia, France and Czechoslovakia defeated Portugal, Austria and Romania respectively to reach the semifinals. USSR got a walkover from Spain, who declined to play against the communist nation. Both the semifinals were played on the 6th of July, 1960. Yugoslavia defeated host nation France in Paris, while USSR got the better of Czechoslovakia at Marseille. In the final staged at Parc des Princes of Paris, France on 10th July, 1960, USSR defeated Yugoslavia 2-1 to emerge the first champions of the European Nations Cup.
