Neuer Platz and Dragon Fountain (Lindwurmbrunnen) has massive Dragon Fountain (Lindwurmbrunnen). This dragon is Klagenfurt’s heraldic symbol. Ulrich Vogelsang carved the massive Dragon Fountain in 1590. The entire sculpture was made from one single block of chloritic schist. The "Neuer Platz" is the main square in Klagenfurt.
According to popular legend, the town was built over a swamp inhabited by a dragon. The dragon was later slain. The skull of a woolly rhinoceros was used to make the dragon's head. In 1636, the figure of Hercules and the iron railings were annexed to the dragon sculpture. The Trinity Column stands on the Neuer Platz as well. Neuer Platz and Dragon Fountain (Lindwurmbrunnen) is one of the most visited Klagenfurt tourist attractions.
