Carinthian Provincial Museum (Landesmuseum) is situated to the east of the Provincial Government building in Klagenfurt's Arnulfplatz. The museum was built during 1879-84. This museum houses a wide range of collections of material on the art and life of Carinthia and its natural history. There are rich collections of materials on the history of the town, which includes a model of Klagenfurt of 1800.
"Fürstenstein" (Prince's Stone) from Karnburg is a significant one from the medieval times. This is in fact the most important of all the collections. Until 1414, the elected duke was enthroned on "Fürstenstein". Another notable item is the ceremonial sword of the Knights of St George from Millstatt (1499).
There is an Ice Age rhinoceros skull, which served as the model for the Dragon Fountain in the natural history section. Relief models of the Villach Alps, the eastern Karawanken and the Grossglockner Mountains are also to be found in the natural history section. Votive stones and Roman gravestones from Virunum in the Zollfeld and other sites are housed in the park of Carinthian Provincial Museum (Landesmuseum).
Carinthian Provincial Museum (Landesmuseum) in Klagenfurt is one of the most important Klagenfurt Tourist Attractions. Little Theater (Kammerspiele) is housed in the east of the museum at the Concert Hall (Konzerthaus).
