Alpenzoo is home to endangered species that make the Alps their abode. Founded to preserve the wildlife in the mountains, the Alpenzoo houses a large number of animals and birds. The highest zoo in the world, Alpenzoo is situated in the fringes of the city. It is one of the popular Innsbruck attractions.
Alpenzoo at Innsbruck houses more than 150 species of rare animals and birds. The zoological garden is home to approximately 2000 animals and records about 300,000 visitors every year. Along with the young bear cubs that entertain the visitors with their agility, one will find forest Rapp, woodpeckers, Rauhfusshuhner, bearded vultures, ravens, otters, foxes, wolves, lynx, owls, snowshoe hares, red deer, ibex, wild cats and marmots at the zoo.
Alpenzoo in Innsbruck has developed the largest cold water aquarium in the world which has 50 different species of aquatic animals as its inmate. Aqua free and Terra plants are placed for the animals belonging to the reptilian species.
Alpenzoo of Innsbruck remains open for public from 9 A.M to 6 P.M in the summer months. The zoo is open from 9 A.M to 5 P.M in the winter season. Tour guides are available for the visitors at the zoo. A token amount is charged as entrance fee for the adults while children below 4 years are permitted free admission.
