The
Groups in Euro 2008 has been fixed through the draws based upon seeding of the teams. The draw took place on the 2nd of December, 2007 and was held at the Culture and Convention Centre of Lucerne. The famous personalities who were present to perform the draw were Jurgen Klinsmann, Theodoros Zagorakis, Didier Deschamps, Franz Beckenbauer, Gianni Infantino, Bernard Dietz, Dino Zoff and Anton Ondrus. Each of them conducted draws for a pot or a group to set the groups in Euro 2008.
Four groups have been created-Group A, B, C and D-each containing four teams. The matches of each group will be played in two stadiums. There will be a seeded team in each group who will play all its matches in the same stadium. Austria and Switzerland were seeded by virtue of being the co-hosts while Greece was seeded for being the defending champions. The other place for the seeded team was given to The Netherlands for their excellent performance at the qualifiers.
The teams in Euro 2008 Group A are host Switzerland, Turkey, Portugal and Czech Republic while co-host Austria will be playing in Euro 2008 Group B with Germany, Croatia and Poland. Euro 2008 Group C will consist of The Netherlands, France, Romania and Italy. With three of major superpowers of European football in the group, Group C is being dubbed as the ‘Group of Death’. The last group of the Euro 2008 is Euro 2008 Group D. The teams in this group are Russia, Spain, Greece and Sweden. This is the second consecutive year that the first three teams have been placed in the same group. The Euro 2008 groups are expected to produce some enchanting display of soccer to mesmerize the audience during the time of the Euro 2008.
