Euro Cup 2008 Group A consists of teams of Switzerland, Turkey, Czech Republic and Portugal. Among these teams, Switzerland qualified automatically as the joint host of the tournament. The other three teams of Euro Cup 2008 Group A advanced to the finals by playing through the qualifying rounds. Some of the famous players expected to take the field during the matches of Group A of Euro Cup 2008 include Deco, Milan Baros, Hakan Sukur, Jan Koller and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Euro 2008 will begin with the match of Group A between Switzerland and Czech Republic on 7th June. Another match will be held on the same day between Portugal and Turkey. On 11th June, Switzerland will meet Turkey as its opponent team. Next, on 15th June, a match will be played between Portugal and Switzerland. On the same day, Turkey will play against Czech Republic. The matches of the teams of Euro 2008 Group A will be held at St. Jacob-Park stadium in Basel and Stade de Geneva in Geneva.
Qualifying Rounds of 'Group A' Teams
Portugal was placed in Group A of the qualifiers along with Poland, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Finland, Serbia, Azerbaijan and Belgium. They registered wins in the qualifiers against Azerbaijan, Belgium, Kazakhstan and Armenia. Their ties came against Poland, Serbia, Armenia and Finland. They are expected to bank upon the talents of Cristiano Ronaldo, Maniche and a few other players to win the tournament.
Czech Republic qualified for the main round of the qualifiers. They lost their home match against Germany but won rest of their home matches. In case of away matches, they had a tie with Republic of Ireland but won the remaining matches.
Turkey, on the other hand, finished runner up in their group after Greece. They lost to Greece and had a draw with Norway in the home matches. In the away matches, Turkey was defeated by Bosnia and Herzegovina, had a tie with Moldova and Malta and won against Greece, Norway and Hungary.
