Vivarium Elapsoidea is one of the Geneva attractions. Inaugurated in 1989, the Vivarium Elapsoidea of Geneva was the brainchild of a few Genevian youths. However, full fledged work began from 1991 and within a year it was completed. In 1993, a public exhibition was organized, which drew a massive crowd of more than 50,000. The 1995 exhibition repeated its success.
In order to promote studies on snakes and other reptiles, they planned this unparalleled place. Very soon, it became extremely popular with the students, children and even the general tourists in Geneva were attracted to it.
The well maintained complex of Vivarium Elapsoidea boasts of rare species of snakes, tortoise, lizards, crocodiles, alligators and various other kinds of reptiles. Declared also as a cultural foundation, Vivarium Elapsoidea is working with the objective of
- Promoting reptile related education
- To develop and create reptile breeding all over Switzerland
- Protecting rare and endangered species
The Vivarium Elapsoidea is open for public viewing on all days of the week, from 10:00 to 18:00 except on Wednesdays when it is open from 1400 to 1800 hours. The foundation also undertakes educational trips and excursion for students.
